Is the Minimum Wage in California Enough to Live On?

The minimum wage applies to most employees in California, with limited exceptions including tipped employees, some student workers, and other exempt occupations. Employers must ensure that the wage rate is shown on the employee's pay stub and that employees are paid at least the minimum wage, even when employees are paid piecework. However, it is important to note that the minimum wage in California is not necessarily enough to live on.

It is not equivalent to a living wage or an approximate income that families need to pay their bills.
